Chairmans Notes

Fleet Town v Uxbridge

01/05/08

Well here we are, after 42 league games it all comes down to this. Fleet v Uxbridge and Didcot v Oxford for one more promotion place and the dizzy heights of the premier league. The final, who knows? But what a finale!

I’m reminded of a few phrases from a former employer of mine. If it’s to be it’s up to me; in many ways that’s true because you rarely fine someone who gives you anything. Success comes in cans – not cannots. This is also true as so many people are limited only by their own attitude to what they think they can do or can’t do – or what others think they can or can’t do. Actually this comes almost directly from the Apostle Paul in the Bible who says “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength”. Paul was talking about Jesus and basically saying that with God on our side nothing is impossible or put another way everything is possible. If you want the fruit you have to go out on a limb; this one needs a little imagination. The saying goes that money doesn’t grow on trees but people make a lot of money out of apples, oranges etc and of course they grow on the limbs of trees. If we believe it we can achieve it. I like this one, it’s all about vision and goals, about seeing ourselves a little quicker, a little smarter, a little stronger than the competition. It about seeing beyond the winning line and collecting the prize. If we can see it in our mind we can make it happen in the physical world.

Of course all the above also counts for our opponents this evening. Why are Uxbridge here tonight? - Because under the league rules they deserve to be here and their hard work over the last 42 games merit it. Why are Fleet here tonight? – Because the league doesn’t lie and we deserve to be here. But all that counts for nothing. Tonight is not about who finished 2nd or 5th. Tonight stands on its own. The outcome of this match will depend on three things heart, character and free minds. And how the outcome of tonight’s match is taken will also show true character.

Welcome to the biggest match of the season so far.

We give a warm welcome to the directors, players and supporters of Uxbridge FC we wish you a good evening, a safe journey home and good fortune for you future whatever the outcome of tonight’s match. We also give a warm welcome to the Officials for this contest – your character is also on show. We hope you all have a good game.

Well here we are – the Semi Final of the play off’s.

COME ON YOU BLUES.
