5-goal Yate run away with Trophy spoils

Fleet Town 0 - 5 Yate Town

By Steve Cantle
At Calthorpe Park

Yate ran away with this tie, netting five times during a whirlwind 2nd half performance.

Neither side looked like scoring though during a lacklustre first period. But immediately after the interval the visitors immediately upped the tempo of their game and eventually the goals started to flow.

Wingman, Joe McClennan was the first on the scoresheet for Yate in the 53rd minute, showing great control before blasting the ball in from 10 yards out. Yate’s second came with just over 20 minutes left on the clock, Tristan Ferguson nudging in a cross from Dave Stone, from a yard out.

Yate continued to control things and eventually a shell-shocked Fleet side capitulated in the closing 10 minutes, as Yate helped themselves to three more.

Robin Nicholls bagged number 3, in the 81st minute, heading in a cross from the right by McClennan.

Sub Nickell Plummer then made it 4-0, seven minutes later, neatly side-stepping his marker to fire in from a tight angle. Stone then sealed things with a fifth with a minute to go, with a fine close-range effort.
