A last minute winner by striker, Craig Leworthy saw Fleet through this testing cup-tie on Tuesday night, to reach the last four of the Aldershot Senior Cup.
Leworthy's last-ditch effort brought a deserved win for the Fleet side ahead of key league matches over the next few weeks. But on the night Mick Catlin's men were made to work hard by a tough Army side that plays its regular football in Service Leagues from its base in Gibraltar Barracks in Borden.
Losing Aldershot Cup finalists two seasons ago, the Borden side looked to have wrapped things up, after going ahead in the first half. But a strong final quarter showing by Fleet brought the Dr Martens League side home, after sub Steve Black had squared things for the home side, with just 13 minutes to go.
Boss, Catlin was delighted with the win and will now be looking for his side to repeat this winning form in Saturday's crucial league clash with Erith & Belvedere at Calthorpe Park.
"its great to win through in cup games, but Saturday's league match is much more important for us at the moment," Catlin said after the match.
"Like us, Erith are having a difficult season, but having beaten them twice already at their ground this season, our confidence levels will be high. Today's cup result will also have helped in that respect," Catlin added.
One man who will be missing from Fleet's line-up on Saturday is leading scorer, Shaun Hale, who starts a two-match suspension after being dismissed in the final seconds of the recent game at Eastleigh.
But apart from Hale, Catlin is expecting to select from a full-strength squad, with mid-fielders, Jamie Proctor and Brian Wood coming back into contention after recovering from injuries picked up in the Burnham game at Christmas.
Also expected to start is new signing, Danny Boyle, who joined Catlin's squad from the Wessex League club, Moneyfields, two weeks ago and has been impressing with his fast attacking play.
