Another polished performance by Fleet Town on Tuesday night saw them extend their current unbeaten run to seven games, and progress to the third round of the Dr Martens League cup.
The cup win at basement boys, Erith, was also the best possible preparation for the visit of high-flying Eastleigh to Calthorpe Park on Saturday.
Putting the weekend's goal-less stalemate at Chatham behind them, Mick Catlin's men looked a different side as they outplayed Erith for most of the 90 minutes, and netted twice for a place in the league cup third round draw, which will include all of the Dr Martens Premier Division sides.
Catlin was able to call up a more or less full-strength side for Tuesday's trip to Erith's west Kent ground, which is shared with Premier Division outfit, Welling Utd.
Back in was hot-shot striker, Shea Saunders and there was a starting place for defender, Lee Blakely, who had not played since picking up an injury in the Dartford game.
Erith were without their league leading scorer, Akpo Sodje, but made most of the early running, with striker, Darren Adams going close early on. Fleet were again slow to get into their stride, and should have gone behind in the 33rd minute when Adams was clear through on goal but his hurried shot sailed wide of the goal.
This let-off seemed to raise the tempo of Fleet's game, and five minutes later the Blues took the lead courtesy a header by wingman Shaun Hale, after Saunders had dispossessed a defender and fired a great low cross into the box which was knocked on to Hale by striker, Steve Whitcher.
Hale's strike, his ninth of the campaign so far, was then followed by several chances for Fleet to extend their lead, but the home side hung on, and went in at the break with every chance of getting back in the game.
Fleet started the second-half brightly, but immediately gave away a free-kick, which needed a great save from Fleet keeper, Calvin Sparshatt to keep his side ahead.
On 57 minutes another great run at the defence by Shea Saunders set up a chance for Craig Leworthy, but his powerful shot was just wide of the target.
Fleet were now well on top and further chances followed. Hale went close on two occasions, one, a header, was just tipped over the bar by Erith keeper, Clark Hunt.
With time running out for Erith, Fleet finally scored again in the final minute to seal the game, Leworthy netting after a great run and pass by sub Eddie Smith.
FLEET TOWN: Sparshatt, Black, Blakely, Hare, Jeffrey, Ian Saunders, Shea Saunders, Anstey, Whitcher, (sub, E.Smith, 83 mins), Leworthy, Hale. Subs not used: Millerick, Buckland, May, Steele Saunders.
