A great display of goal-keeping by Fleet's Steve May earned his side a share of the points in this season finale at Calthorpe Park.
The 36 year-old, ex Havant keeper made a number of crucial saves in both halves to keep Fleet in the game, and brought to an end his side's 7-match losing run.
The visitors made most of the running in the first half and should have taken the lead after 18 minutes, when mid-fielder, Jonathan Thorogood, made good contact with a cross from the right, but at full stretch May held on to what looked a certain goal.
On 35 minutes, Ashford's best chance should have been put away by striker, Mike Azzopardi, but his shot was sliced wide of the post.
Fleet finished the half strongly with chances falling to skipper, Ian Saunders and striker, Eddie Smith, whose powerful shot was just deflected away from goal. But it was wingman Shaun Hale who put the home side ahead with the final attack of the half; a strong run down the left followed by a firm, right-footed shot into the corner of the net.
Keeper May was again in action after the break, a great diving save denying skipper, Simon Elliott, after a great run by the pacy Joby Thorogood. For their part, Fleet kept up the pressure on the Ashford defence, striking the bar twice in 10 minutes with shots from Richard Mealey and sub, Steve Black.
Ashford's equaliser came on 66 minutes, when a fast break from defence put Joby Thorogood clear and the young striker made no mistake from close range.
Both sides then went all out for the winner and only some further great blocks from May kept the scores level for his side to go away with their first point in 8 matches.
