Things finally went right for Fleet on Saturday, defeating in-form, London side, Fisher Athletic, to record their first league win in over three months.
Two second-half goals from striker, Craig Leworthy, capped a fine afternoon's work by Mick Catlin's men to bring the long overdue, but deserved win.
But with the other bottom sides also winning on Saturday, Catlin's side remain anchored to the floor of the Eastern Division table, still with plenty more to do before moving away from the relegation zone.
The London side started clear favourites on Saturday, having lost only once in their last ten league outings, and having beaten Fleet convincingly at Calthorpe Park earlier in the season.
But even with their recent spate of high-profile signings, the Fisher side were outplayed by a determined Fleet side, keen to end their recent barren run.
A delighted Catlin was full of praise for his side after the game. "We were the better side in the second half and fully deserved to take the points. We defended well all game, and clearly the result is a great confidence booster for the whole side after such a poor run of results."
Ahead of the game, Catlin was able to name new signing, defender Damian Dalton in his starting line-up, to plug the gap left by the departure of Dan Jeffery. Wingman, Shaun Hale passed a late fitness test and returned to the side after missing last Saturday's game through suspension. Also making a welcome return was ex-Moneyfields mid-fielder, Danny Boyle, who was named amongst the five substitutes.
Both sides started brightly with chances coming at both ends. Striker, Richard Mealey went close on 5 minutes, and Hale's 20 yard effort was only inches out. At the other end Fleet keeper, Calvin Sparshatt was kept busy, as Fisher's leading scorer, Richard Brady went close to adding to his 17 league goals this season.
Fisher then went ahead in the 24th minute when Brady's strike partner, Leroy Huggins netted from close range after a goal-mouth scramble and poor clearance by the Fleet defence.
After the interval Fleet took control of the game, enjoying good possession and creating plenty of problems in the Fisher defences. The first chance fell to influential mid-fielder, Craig Anstey, but his shot went wide. Fleet continued to dominate and then equalised in the 56th minute, Leworthy managing to lob 6ft 4 inch Fisher keeper, Robert O'Hara with a delicate chip shot from 20 yards out.
The home side fought back into the match and looked to have re-taken the lead 10 minutes later, when Brady unleashed a powerful shot, requiring a great block from Sparshatt.
The decisive moment came with 15 minutes remaining, when Fleet were awarded a penalty after Mealey was brought down in the box. Leworthy stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to take Fleet into the lead for the first time in the match.
Five minutes later Fisher looked to have pulled back into the match, but Brady was adjudged to be off-side as he netted easily after a shot from teammate, Ray Powell.
