Histon 5-1 Fleet Town

Dr Martens Eastern

Match Report by Steve Cantle

A gutsy display by Fleet Town couldn't halt high-flying Histon, still in with a chance of the Eastern Division title.

In front of a crowd of almost 400, Fleet were not disgraced as the win took the Cambridgeshire side into second place, three points behind leaders, King's Lynn with one match remaining.

Histon went ahead in the 22nd minute, Ian Cambridge nodding down a corner for defender, Steve Holden to score. A minute later Fleet striker Ed Smith, could have squared things, but shot wide.

Histon went further ahead on 35 minutes, striker Neil Kennedy netting after keeper, Calvin Sparshatt failed to clear. Sparshatt made amends as Histon took charge and could have scored several more, but some great saves by the ex-Havant keeper.

After the break, Kennedy scored his second on 57 minutes and completed his hat-trick two minutes later with the Fleet defence struggling to deal with the more experienced Histon attack.

Neil Andrews then made it five with 15 minutes to go, after Sparshatt failed to hold on to a firm strike.

Fleet wingman, Shaun Hale scored a deserved consolation goal for Fleet with five minutes to go, after running on to great pass from mid-fielder, Ed Hare.

Fleet Town: Sparshatt, Proctor, (sub, Buckland, 84 minutes), Millerick, Hare, Dalton, Boyle, Black, Anstey, Scammell (Maheady, 76), Smith, Hale.
