Three goals in ten minutes half way through the first-half sealed this match for visitors, Histon, to maintain their unbeaten league record and keep leaders Tonbridge under pressure.
Both sets of forwards capitalised on defensive errors at both ends, to net six goals in a pulsating first-half. The home side twice took the lead, scoring first after only 4 minutes when from a free-kick, Histon keeper Paul Barber dropped the ball for striker Shea Saunders to head in from close range.
Histon responded in the 15th minute when striker Neil Kennedy beat the off-side trap and scored with a powerful finish into the corner of the net.
Ten minutes later Fleet were back in the lead when front-man Steve Whitcher rounded his marker and beat the stranded Barber with a neat chip.
Despite the scoreline, Histon now took charge and for the next 10 minutes seemed unstoppable as they netted three times in quick succession.
First a defensive error let in striker, Ian Cambridge who gave Fleet keeper, Calvin Sparshatt no chance with a well-aimed left-footed shot. A minute later, Cambridge was presented with his second, after the Fleet defence failed to clear a cross from the right. Kennedy then netted his second a few minutes later after running on to loose ball.
For their part Fleet continued to threaten up front and had a great chance to pull one back just before the interval, when Whitcher was fouled in the area. But Barber made amends for his earlier mistakes by saving the resulting spot-kick by Shea Saunders.
The second-half was much quieter than the first, with Histon adding just one further goal, in the 66th minute, when wingman, Jamie Barker beat off three tackles to score the best goal of the afternoon from close range.
