Fleet Town 4 - Kings Lynn

Dr Martens Eastern

Match Report by Steve Cantle

Fleet Townıs losing start to the season continued on Saturday when they came up against an in-form Kings Lynn side and crashed to their worst defeat of the season so far in front of a crowd of almost 700.

Going into the game on the back of two narrow defeats, an under-strength Fleet found it tough going against one of the Eastern Divisionıs biggest clubs a side eager for promotion back to the Dr Martens Premier Division.

Catlin was forced to make changes ahead of the kick-off when wing-back Anthony Millerick had to pull out due to a calf strain. Keeper Steve May was also sidelined through injury, which brought in reserve keeper, Carl Clayton.

Both sides created chances early on, but it the home side that took any early lead when Jack Defty headed in Paul Raynorıs corner in the 7th minute.

Fleet fought back well and deserved their equaliser on 27 minutes, when striker Mark Frampton drilled home a head-on from Craig Anstey.

Fleet competed well for the rest of the first-half and were unlucky not to win a penalty just before the interval when wingman, Jamie Proctor was downed in the box.

After the break the home side gradually took control and after a double substitution brought on Robbie Harris and summer signing, striker, Malcolm Ndekwe, the Fleet goal came under considerable pressure. It was Harris who eventually broke the deadlock, running on to tap in from close range after Clayton failed to gather a shot from the right.

Four minutes later, Richard Woodrow made it 3-1 with a fine strike. Then with 5 minutes to go, Clayton looked to have covered a long-range effort from Chris Garvey, only for the shot to creep in under the bar.

FLEET TOWN: Clayton, Buckland, Regan, (sub Parker, 75 mins), Murphy, (Saunders, 80), Blakely, Hare, Black, Anstey, Hale, Frampton, Proctor (Tiller, 80). Subs not used: May.
