After a fairly even first 20 minutes, Fleet started to play some good passing football. Gary Connolly opening the scoring on 33 minutes with a crisp right foot shot from 16 yds, which found the top right hand corner of the net.
The second half saw Fleet really turn up the pressure playing the best football so far this season. On 51 minutes Neil Morant picked up the ball, wide right on the half way line, seemed to easily skip past a static Croydon defence, and found himself with only the keeper to beat, which he did with ease, his well judged chip finding the back of the Croydon net, to put Fleet 2 up. Shaun Hale made it three for Fleet on 67 minutes, drilling the ball home from about 8 yds, in a fairly crowded goal mouth.
Fleet had numerous other chances, a number falling to Gareth Keeping, who for some reason, just could not find the finishing touch. Late on (82 mins) Morant was adjudged to have handled the ball during a defensive mix up. Warren Burton scored from the penalty spot, giving Croydon a consolation goal. On this performance, there is no reason why Fleet shouldnt start climbing the table to a position of relative comfort.
