Fleet Town 1 - 1 Tilbury

F.A. Trophy - Preliminary Round

  9th October 2004

A 35th minute, high-quality goal by Tilbury striker, Danny Harris proved decisive as the visitors clung on to earn a replay in this FA Trophy tie.

Up to this point Fleet Town looked to be cruising after wingman, Shaun Hale headed in the opener after 30 minutes. This after the Ryman League club had dominated up to that point.

But Harris' equaliser five minutes later, after great link play with strike partner, Triston Chambers, not only kept his side in the game, but seemed to raise the performance of his side.

Hale's strike, his sixth goal of the season, came as a result of a perfect cross from the right from wingback, Peter Murphy, Hale's header giving Tilbuty keeper, James Nussey no chance. Earlier chances had fallen to Fleet's Luke Middleton and Richard Mealey, but neither forced a save from Nussey.

Harris almost gave the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Fleet's new keeper, Justin Gray was able to block the shot from close range.

After the break Fleet had plenty of chances to win the tie, but neither Mealey or strike partner, Lee Paul could find the target.

Fleet pressed right to the final whistle, and looked to have snatched the tie when Hale fired in a strong shot from the left. But with the keeper well beaten, the ball went just  wide of the far upright.
