Another disappointing performance this time against a tough Bromley side has left Fleet struggling for points, with just two matches remaining. With all their main relegation rivals winning on Saturday, the Fleet side now face a tense season finale to avoid the drop.
Needing one win from their final three matches to be sure of Ryman League football at Calthorpe Park next season, Paul Holden's men started confidently enough, but once again, defensive errors were to prove costly against a lively Bromley side.
The visitors' opener on 14 minutes was gifted when Fleet defender, Jermaine Hinds failed to deal with a long throw from the left by Bromley skipper, Steve Potterill. The bouncing ball was then headed into his own goal by Fleet defender, Steve Riley.
Fleet rallied well and looked threatening on the break, but shots by wingman, Tinoi Christie and mid-fielder, Andy Sinton both failed to threaten Bromley keeper, Andy Walker.
Bromley looked the more likely side to score and increased their lead on 42 minutes when Fleet keeper, Paul Smith failed to hang on to a powerful drive from Bromley's Gavin McGowan, and Mark Tompkins followed up to score from close range.
After the break Bromley should have increased their lead further, two excellent chances falling to Tompkins, the second of which brought a great diving save from Smith, in the Fleet goal.
To their credit Fleet continued to press to get back in the game, but failed to put any serious pressure on the Bromley goal
The game ended on a sour note when, in the closing minutes, Fleet's Phil Archbold was shown red by referee, Warren Atkin, for dissent, after failing to win a penalty decision.
