Report by Steve Cantle
Fleet continued their excellent pre-season form with this win against neighbours Cove. For manager, Andy Sinton it was another chance to look at the potential of more possible new signings, including striker, Carl Wilson-Dennis from Dulwich Hamlet and defender, Stuart Brown from Burnham.
Fleet took the lead in the first half on 26 minutes when Martin Girling just managed to beat the advancing Cove keeper, Craig Green, with a neat finish from the edge of the penalty area.
The rest of the goals came after the break. First Mike Confrey levelled things for the visitors from a narrow angle shot in the 60th minute. Three minutes later, defender Paul George came Green no chance with a header from Terry Davies’ free-kick.
Not long after Cove were reduced to 10 men, after defender Ian Messenger was shown red for a violent tackle on Fleet youngster, Michael Blount.
On 75 minutes Fleet made it three, thanks a fine jinxing run by sub striker, Nathan Smart, whose cross from the right was converted by triallist, Wilson-Dennis.
Fleet have no friendly this weekend.
