Lacklustre Fleet maintain play-off bid
Report by Steve Cantle
A penalty on the stroke of half-time decided this lacklustre game in favour of promotion-chasing Fleet Town .
It was an unconvincing victory by the north Hants side, but for the Casuals the result means almost certain relegation.
For the first 40 minutes neither side managed to dominate the play, the only chance falling to Fleet's Phil John in the 10 th minute but his shot went wide. The visitors enjoyed reasonable possession but rarely threatened.
As the first half finished Fleet enjoyed their best period of play, twice having shots find the net, but on both occasions were ruled as off-side by referee, Alison Chapman. With seconds of the half remaining, a long throw-in from the left was collected by James Field. The winger's cross was handled in the area by a Casuals defender and a penalty awarded. Field made no mistake with the spot-kick, striking it powerfully past keeper, Colin Harris.
Fleet created more chances in the second-half, the best of them in the 75 th minute falling to Hamilton . But the striker shot wide.
The Casuals pressed hard for the equaliser in the closing minutes, but Fleet keeper, Justin Gray was not seriously tested. |
