Reid books play-off place for Fleet
By Steve Cantle
Two goals by striker Tony Reid sealed this win for Fleet and booked them a place in the play-offs.
The opener came after just 12 minutes when Sam Pearce's long-range effort was not taken cleanly by Croydon keeper, Danny Firkin and following up, Reid was in the right spot to knock the rebound into the goal.
For the rest of the half Fleet threatened to add more, but wayward finishing keep the visitors in the game. Fleet's best chance fell to Reid on 26 minutes but his close-range shot powered over the crossbar.
At the other end Croydon pressed hard and were playing attractive football as they thoroughly tested the Fleet defence. Once again, both Mark Paterson and skipper, Steve Noakes were outstanding.
On the stroke of half-time, Firkin saved brilliantly when Adam Wallace's header looked to have added to the score.
After the break both sides struggled to create chances, but with 5 minutes to go Reid netted his second, jumping high to nod home a free-kick by James Field. Three minutes later sub Eddie Smith made it three, with a fine individual effort.
