NEWS FROM FLEET TOWN FC

DECEMBER 2006 - A HAPPY CHRISTMAS & BACK ON TOP!

Dear Supporter,

Well how things change! In our last newsletter we moaned that we couldn't get much right on the pitch but since then we have not lost a game and on 30 th December we returned to the Top of the League !

We won 4 of our 6 league games in the month and Lady Luck returned too - we beat Ashford Town with only ten men, we equalised at Croydon in the 88 th minute in a game that ended 4-4 and saw us claw back two goal deficits THREE times. We also scored our winner against Godalming Town on Boxing Day with about five minutes left. We eventually played our thrice-postponed game against Tooting & Mitcham and on a foggy, cold evening the diehard Blues fans saw a 0-0 draw although it was almost impossible to see the goal posts at times!

The weather has been unbelievable. It gave us a quagmire pitch at Ashford, a pea-souper fog against Tooting & Mitcham and it was no real surprise that our game against Walton Casuals on 30 th took place amid storms and torrential rain. However the team were magnificent and battled to a 2-1 victory that moved us back up to the top. Our playing record now reads 12 wins, 7 draws and 4 defeats and although the chasing 'D's (Dartford, Dulwich Hamlet and Dover Athletic) have games in hand on us, its great to go into 2007 three points clear of the rest of the division.

We have also progressed into the last eight of two cups. Our 5-0 thrashing of Romsey Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup set up a quarter final clash with Winchester City at home on 30 th January and a victory could see us play neighbours Aldershot Town or Farnborough Town in one of the semi-finals.

Our goals have been fairly evenly spread over the month although striker Adam Wallace, who joined us from Slough Town in mid-November, has so far netted 9 times in only 11 appearances including 4 of the goals against Romsey.

Confidence is again on the up in and around the club and with over half the season gone we are well on course for promotion to the Ryman Premier division.

If you want to take in a home game in January we have some crackers for you:

  • Saturday 6 th v Maidstone United 3.00pm League
  • Tuesday 16 th v Bemerton Heath H 7.45pm Russell Cotes Cup
  • Saturday 20 th v Horsham YMCA 7.45pm League
  • Tuesday 30 th v Winchester City 3.00pm Hants Senior Cup

We continue to receive good coverage in the local papers - even getting player ratings and photographs in recent weeks. Full match reports can also be seen on our website if you can't wait for the weekly paper, its www.fleettownfc.co.uk

And other teams at Fleet Town are also going well:

Our Reserves remain in 3 rd spot in their league having won 8, drawn 2 and lost 3 so far. They are however the divisions top scorers with 35 goals to date. The team has also progressed to R4 of the Hants Intermediate Cup and will play Cowes Sports.

The Youth team have had few games recently and although still undefeated at home, three away defeats in a playing record of P9 W3 D3 L3 puts them in 4 th position. Away from the football the boys had a Go-Karting team-building session that was won by the teams two keepers, Sam Waters and David Casey.

December is a quiet month for our youngsters. That said though, our u11 girls' team is undefeated in 19 games, tops their division and has two girls in Chelsea 's development squad! In the Boys Colts section the u12's have climbed to 3 rd and our two u13 teams still occupy the top places in their NEHYL divisions. In the SPL the Fleet Town Ospreys and Eagles continue to head up their respective u9 divisions. As part of our planning to build links throughout the club, many of the young people's squads have been ballboys/girls at first team matches already this season.

Away from the football, the Christmas karaoke party was great fun. Most of the singers' voices probably sound better after a lot of beer but it was a brilliant evening and one that we will repeat next year.

The next General Knowledge Quiz evening is in the ClubHouse on January 12th and if you know the capital of Russia, the name of the new James Bond or what SWALK means on a letter then you're good enough to come and join in.

Thanks for all your support so far. Here's to a peaceful, & successful 2007.

Up the Blues!

Commercial Manager

PS Don't forget the Sponsors Appreciation Match against Kingstonian on 17th March
