NEWS FROM FLEET TOWN FC
JANUARY 2007 - RAIN IS OUR STRONGEST OPPONENT!
Dear Supporter,
The heavens certainly opened in the North Hampshire area during January and as a consequence we had many games postponed throughout the whole club. No home Ryman League matches took place due to a waterlogged pitch although we did manage to play two away games, losing 2-1 at Leatherhead and drawing 0-0 at Chatham in games we did more than enough to win.
The lack of games played meant we slipped down to 4 th position and our playing record at the end of January reads 12 wins, 8 draws & 5 defeats. We are however only three points behind the leaders (Dulwich Hamlet) with a game in hand. As this season only the top team is automatically promoted and the next four clubs are involved in a play-off it promises to be thrilling few months for Fleet Town FC.
Away from the league we did manage to complete two cup matches and very successful they were too! We beat Winchester City 1-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup and thrashed Bemerton Heath Harlequins (3-0) to get to the semis of the Russell Cotes Cup. Both cups are highly respected in the County and our progress shows how far we have come under Andy Sintons management.
We have five scheduled home games in February:
- Tuesday 6 th v R & B Sports 7.45pm Basingstoke Senior Cup
- Saturday 10 th v Metropolitan Police 3.00pm League
- Tuesday 13 th v Badshot Lea 7.45pm Aldershot Senior Cup
- Tuesday 20 th v Maidstone United 7.45pm League
- Saturday 24 th v Ashford Town 3.00pm League
In addition to the above we also play crucial away games at fellow promotion rivals Dartford and Dulwich Hamlet this month. If you want to travel with us please call me or the club as we need all the support we can get if we are to get that promotion for the town.
Away from the football planning for our annual Sponsors Appreciation Match on 17 th March (when we play old rivals Kingstonian) is now underway. This is an important part of building relationships with you, our sponsors, and the day will start at 1.00pm with a buffet lunch followed by presentations on initiatives in and around the club. We would appreciate your confirmation of attendance as soon as possible.
And news from the rest of the Club?
The FTFC Reserves remain in 3rd spot in their league having won 9, drawn 3 and lost 3 games. The boys won their Hampshire Intermediate Cup game at Cowes Sports 2-0 and now play Horndean in Round 5 seeking to emulate the first teams' cup successes.
The Youth team never played a league game in January at all! Although seven lads played for the reserves and one, Stu Derry, made his debut for the first team.
In the young peoples section of the club more cup success with our girls u14 (Blues) team under the management of Joe Webster reaching the last four of the Hampshire Cup and the last eight of the Surrey Cup (along with our u14 Reds team incidentally). Scott Heyhoe's u11 girls team got to their league cup semi-final by thrashing Beaulieu 6-0 with some stunning goals.
The Boys club has recently launched a new website ( www.fleettowncolts.co.uk) where you can read about our thriving Colts section and follow the progress of the teams - notably the u13 (Reds) team who now head their NEHYL division having won all but one of their games so far whilst in the SPL the u12's are undefeated in eight games and pushing for promotion, the 9 Fleet Town Eagles head up their division and the u8 Fleet Town Oranges are top too. So the future looks ........good!
Finally away from the football our Clubhouse hosts the next General Knowledge Quiz evening on February 9 th from 7.45pm . We had over 90 people attend the last event so come and join us, its great fun.
Thanks for all your support so far, it's much appreciated by us all.
Up the Blues!
