Sheer delight as Fleet hit 4
Fleet Town extended their unbeaten run to Eleven games in all competitions, at the expense of in form Sheerwater, on Tuesday night. The win moving them closer to leaders Cobham, for twenty four hours until Cobham won on Wednesday night 8-0 away to Balham.
Fleet Town started strongly and were ahead in five minutes, when Sheerwater keeper Drew Churchwell failed to hold a shot from Liam Avery and the loose ball was tapped in by Sean Swift. Another chance soon followed for Fleet to extend their lead but Sam Bartlett’s effort was to close to the keeper and Drew Churchwell made the save. Sam Bartlett made no mistake after Twenty-Six minutes when he pounced on a long ball hit forward and slotted it past the Sheerwater keeper at his near post. More chances soon followed for Fleet, a cross from wide on the right was headed over by Charlie Postance, With the visitors keeper out of his goal trying to close in on the ball, Theo White hit a shot from a narrow angle but it went wide. Near the end of the first half Sheerwater created a couple of chances, from a very long throw in, the ball was flicked on by Harvey Valter, but straight into the hands of Sam Gray in the Fleet goal. Sheerwater were given a free kick in a dangerous area on the right, but was lifted deep into the box and Sam Gray was able to come across and claim the ball to kill the danger. The half time whistle blew with Fleet Town holding a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Both sides started the second half with the same eleven on the pitch, but Sheerwater only waited four minutes to make their first change and soon created an opening, getting a shot passed Sam Gray, but Brad Manning was back to clear the ball off the line. Then on Fifty-Three minutes a hopeful ball knocked across the box by Jake Horn was deflected by a Fleet defender into his own net to get Sheerwater back into the game. Immediately Sheerwater were pegged back as Fleet pushed forward, Theo White shot from the edge of the box but his effort was saved. Fleet then won a corner, which was played into the box and Joe Dyett had a shot saved. The next attack saw Sam Bartlett cross from the right to the far post where it was nodded down to Theo White to stab in from close range to score Fleet’s third goal on Fifty-Eight minutes.
Over the next quarter of an hour both sides made a couple of changes, with Fleet giving debuts to Alex Keatings and Lewis Pearch. On Seventy-Six minutes Ollie Burke burst up the right and squared the ball to Lewis Pearch, he controlled the ball, nutmegged a defender and collected the ball, took aim and smashed the ball wide of Drew Churchwell for his first goal for Fleet Town and make it 4-1. Sheerwater made one late chance but the shot was blocked, from point blank range, by Sam Gray for a corner, which was easily cleared and Fleet saw out the match to complete another good victory.
