Blues hit five to go second!
Fleet Town showed their class on Saturday afternoon at The Spectrum, running out comfortable winners in the end, against the bottom side, Guildford City, who have had a poor and troubled season so far, indicated by the fact they could only find three players to sit on the bench as substitutes.
Guildford City actually played some good football in the first ten minutes, passing the ball well between themselves at the back and in midfield, without carving out a good chance in front of goal. The home side were able to keep Fleet Town at bay for Twenty-Five minutes, until Sean Swift saw his chance and hit the ball on the half volley, from outside of the box, the ball looped up and over keeper Marvin Wood in the Guildford goal, into the net, to open the scoring for Fleet Town. The Guildford back line stayed strong denying Fleet the openings to add to the score before half time.
Guildford came out for the second half full of hope that they could find a way back into the game and cancel out Fleet’s narrow advantage. But their hope was smashed within two minutes when Sam Bartlett opened up Guildford and knocked a perfect ball in, which was met by the head of Charlie Postance to nod the ball past Marvin Wood and double Fleet’s lead. Things got even better for Fleet after Fifty-Five minutes, a solo run from Sean Swift up to the box, he chipped the ball over Marvin Wood to make it 3-0 to Fleet Town.
Sean Swift was then rested and replaced by Joe Dyett and a couple of minutes later, as their plan A for the afternoon had failed, Guildford made two changes and their third and final change five minutes after that. After Seventy-Four minutes Sam Bartlett found himself in the box with a shooting chance, but instead he squared the ball to the unmarked Ollie Burke, who had the simple task of sliding the ball home to make it 4-0 to Fleet Town.

Fleet soon brought off the goal scores Charlie Postance and Ollie Burke to take their individual applause from the travelling fans. Fleet were able to improve their goal difference further after Eighty-two minutes, when a loose ball was bouncing around inside the Guildford box, which the home side could not clear, Fleet sub Ryan Griffiths, who had come on for Ollie Burke, was first to pounce and steer the ball into the net to make it 5-0 and complete the scoring for the afternoon.
The result lifts Fleet Town up to second place, going above Abbey Rangers who were held 0-0 by Knaphill, but remain three points behind Cobham, who also won 5-0 with the help of Dean Rule, they still have games in hand and are the only side, in the division, with a better goal difference than Fleet Town at the moment.
The Combined Counties have done the draw for the Third Round of The Premier League Cup, Fleet Town will be away (probably not until the new year) to the winners of the Tadley Calleva v Ardley United second round match (which is not due to be played until December).
Another Cup Draw issued is for the second round of the Hampshire Midweek Youth Cup, in which Fleet Town Under 18 have a home game against Yateley United under 18’s, which is due to be played in early November.
