A classy display sees us back to winning ways on the road

A superb all-round team performance saw us return from our short trip up the A327 to Eversley with all three points and a 0-3 win – rounding off our final fixture before Christmas in the best possible way. The victory lifted us back into sixth place in the table, with one or even three games in hand on the sides above us, and provided a timely reminder of what this group is capable of when we perform with discipline, patience and quality.

The opening stages were cagey, with both teams keen to establish themselves without taking unnecessary risks. Early attacks were well marshalled by both defences, and neither goalkeeper was seriously tested as the game settled into a steady rhythm. We gradually began to assert ourselves, moving the ball well and finding space in wide areas, but clear openings were initially hard to come by.

Our breakthrough arrived just after the half-hour mark and was a reward for our growing control. Good work down the flank from Ollie Burke created the opportunity, his awareness and composure allowing him to square the ball into the path of Charlie Postance. Charlie reacted sharply, producing a clever flick to guide the ball past Joshua Selby and into the net, giving us a deserved 1–0 lead. We saw out the remainder of the half professionally, limiting Eversley’s chances and heading into the break with a narrow but important advantage.

The second half began with real drama. Just five minutes after the restart, Eversley were handed a golden opportunity to draw level from the penalty spot. Henry Paxford stepped up for the home side, but Sam Gray had other ideas, producing an excellent save to preserve our lead. It proved to be a pivotal moment in the match.

Within two minutes of Sam’s save, we doubled our advantage. TJ Taylor delivered an excellent ball into the penalty area, and George Sellick timed his run perfectly to rise above the defence and power a header home. The goal gave us real momentum and allowed us to manage the game with confidence and maturity.

As Eversley pushed forward in search of a way back, we remained organised and disciplined, limiting their chances and continuing to look dangerous on the counter. The result was put beyond doubt in the 83rd minute when a loose ball fell kindly to Charlie Postance, who showed great composure to fire past Selby and claim his second goal of the afternoon.

Despite a generous amount of added time from the officials, we stayed strong and saw the game out to secure a well-earned 3–0 win and a clean sheet for Sam Gray. It was a performance built on teamwork, resilience and quality, and an ideal way to head into the festive break.
