Joe Wotton On Tonight’s Match Against Alton
Joe Wotton gives his thoughts ahead of tonight’s match against Alton at the Mustard Seed Stadium in the Combined Counties Premier Division South.
Tonight’s game against Alton is a really exciting one for me. Not only because I prefer mid-week games under the lights, but also as it is against a former club of mine. You’re always wanting to have the bragging rights and I’ve still got some good mates who play for Alton.
I feel last Wednesdays draw against Balham showed we had another side to our game. Although we are a team that likes to get it down and play, the performance last week was a real ‘gritted’ one where we had to stick together as a group and battle it out for a point.
For me this season was just about getting back into my football after some time off due to various reasons. It was the first time I had recorded back to back starts in a year and a half and I owe thanks to Elliott for taking the right approach with me and Teagan for getting me back to fitness.
Since joining Fleet it’s been an absolute pleasure to play for the club and this is one of the best changing rooms I’ve been apart of. I also feel there is a lot more to come from this group and hope to have a strong finish towards the end of the season. I was aware of some of the boys before joining Fleet and knew it was a really talented group. But one player who I didn’t know who I think has been outstanding is Sam Marks. Although he hates my music in the changing room he some how manages to be anywhere from an 8 to a 10/10 every week. His consistency is a joke. I feel the way he slotted into CB against Balham last week was impressive and helped the team see out the game.
Joe on Alton’s key players – He’ll get annoyed if I don’t mention him but I’ll have to go Jamie Phillips! We used to share lifts with each other to games. He’s just as miserable off the pitch as he is on the pitch but he’s a great player and will always give his all for the team. I’d also mention Bricey (Adam Brice) who’s a great centre Back. An experienced player who’s played much higher.
