Match Report: Redhill 1-3 Fleet Town

Fleet made the trip over to Redhill, on a very cold but bright Saturday afternoon, looking to build on their performance in the curtailed match at Balham last weekend, against another in form play off contender, a comprehensive team display brought Redhill’s six game unbeaten run to an end, with Fleet collecting all three points to lift them up to 9th in the table.

After a quiet start to the game, it burst into life on 17 minutes when Redhill keeper Luke Wynne-Roberts pulled off a good save to deny Louis Blake from giving Fleet the lead. Redhill missed the chance to go ahead after 42 minutes, from the Penalty spot, the shot clipped the outside of the post and went behind. Fleet spurred on by this miss made Redhill pay within two minutes when Dan Bone shot, from outside of the box, his effort flew past Luke Wynne-Roberts into the roof of the net to put Fleet ahead, with his first goal for the club following his return after a season away.  There was little time from the restart for Redhill to do anything to quieten the happy Fleet Town supporters and the half time whistle blew with the score Redhill 0 Fleet Town 1.

The interval gave Redhill the time to discuss plans and changes to get back into the game, but the second half only saw Fleet grow in confidence and dominate long spells of possession. A fine team goal soon followed as Fleet passed the ball around in a slow build up until they were able to play in Mihail Marinescu in space to fire home Fleet’s second goal after 58 minutes. Fleet extended their lead on 70 minutes with a quick break and Sam Marks burst through the Redhill defence to fire the ball into the top corner of the net to put Fleet 3-0 ahead. Redhill came on a bit stronger late on and after one effort was blocked the ball ran loose inside the six yard box for Tommy Smith to pounce and tap in to give the home side some hope of a comeback on 86 minutes, but they were unable to come close again and the goal was nothing more than a consolation. and Fleet ran out 3-1 winners.
