Match Report: Fleet Town 4-0 Sheerwater

Fleet made it 4 wins in a row with a commanding performance in difficult conditions to breeze past league strugglers Sheerwater. The result takes the club into 8th place, only 5 points off playoff positions.

Fleet had a strong start to the game, instantly putting pressure on the Sheerwater back line through some neat phases of football. In the 5th minute, Fleet made a breakthrough in the Sheerwater defence with some determined play from Fareed Hakeem-Habeeb to keep the ball in, who then crossed to an unmarked Dan Bone, where he rifled the ball on the volley into the back of the net. Fleet continued to knock on the door of the Sheerwater goal with a flurry of chances in close succession of each other. After a headed clearance from a corner, Naz Miah produced a delightful cross with the outside of his boot to find Louis Blake, who guided the ball into the top corner to put Fleet 2-0 up within 27 minutes.  Sheerwater had their best effort on goal in the 30th minute, with a low driven shot at Joel Halliday, who got down quickly to his left side to deny Sheerwater any success in the match. Fleet headed down the tunnel at the break 2 goals to the good as the ever-looming presence of fog started to worsen.

Not long after the restart, Fleet were back at it with Dan Bone chesting the ball down into Louis Blake’s path, whose strong shot was saved impressively by the Sheerwater keeper Joseph Hills. The Blue’s however hit their mark in the 69th minute with Dan Bone sliding the ball across to recent substitute Connor Young, who buried the ball into the bottom left corner with a fine finish to get the 3rd goal of the day. Fleet remained on the front foot with fresh legs on the pitch through the use of all 5 subs. The ball found Connor Young in the 83rd minute, whose shot deflected off the Sheerwater keeper’s chest into the path of substitute Jubril Hassan, who then tapped the ball into the back of the net to cap off a brilliant 4-0 win for Fleet.
