Match Report – Late Casuals Goal Denies Fleet Town All Three Points

One point on Saturday keeps Fleet Town in fifth place, as Cobham and Knaphill slip up.

Fleet Town brought the returning Josh Nunes straight into the starting line up, in place of Liam Pestle who had been injured in the Spelthorne game on Tuesday, Josh slotting in as if he had never been away. A competitive first half between two strong sides, matching and cancelling each other out in a goalless stalemate, the closest effort of the half coming in the final minute when Jerson Dos Santos fired wide for the home side.

The game opened up after fifty-six minutes when a long clearance from Fleet caused Corinthian Casuals to have a mix up at the back between a defender and their keeper, the ball was collected by Tane Caubo to knock it into an empty net to put Fleet Town 1-0 ahead. The home side quickly made a couple of changes as they now had to chase the game, as they attacked Denis Travin went to ground and as the Corinthian players stood around appealing to the referee Fleet Town broke away and Dean Rule collected the ball on the left and cut in to shoot and score Fleet’s second goal after sixty-five minutes.

Fleet Town then made another couple of changes of their own as they strived to keep an energetic Casuals side at bay and held firm until the eighty third minute when one of the home sides substitutes Kieron Cadogan unleashed a fierce shot which flew into the net and Corinthian Casuals had pulled a goal back, which gave them even more belief that they could still get something from the game. Fleet Town were forced to bring on new signing Clarence Emeh after ninety minutes when an earlier sub Ross Obazee had to be withdrawn with an injury. The home side threw everyone forward for a very late corner, this was played to the near post and after some head tennis in the box, Kieron Cadogan got the vital contact that took the ball into the goal to level the score at 2-2 in the eighth minute of added time in the last action of the match.

Fleet town will be back in action on Tuesday night in the Aldershot Senior Cup at The Easy As HGV Stadium against Midhurst & Easeborne, before another home match in the league on Saturday 23rd against the leaders Redhill.
