Thoughts from the Skipper – Liam Pestle
Good afternoon all, I would like to start off by welcoming you all to Saturdays away fixture against Camberley Town FC.
It seems like an absolute life time since I last kicked a ball, not only down to the postponement of matches but also due to my suspension against Alton FC… referees can’t get it right every time I suppose!
Saturdays fixture will be a tough one no doubt but we are looking to continue in our good form and bring home 3 points and continue to climb the table. The squad have been working really hard over recent weeks in training and match days and it’s fair to say have been rewarded with fantastic performances and results! We’ve had a few new faces appear which have settled in well improving the unity and ability of the squad. Everybody has played their part whether it be in the starting eleven or as a substitute playing key parts when called upon.
The gaffer and his staff deserve huge praise for their dedication to the players and club itself! They have given opportunities to not just the first team but we are seeing youngsters from our development squad training with us allowing them to gain valuable senior experience. On the training ground they have been working very hard to get the message across and on game day making sure we are set up with the correct info to go out and execute the plan put in front of us!
A mention should also go out to Teag’s who basically mothers us making sure we have what we need whether it be a strapping or a rub (much needed for a couple of us oldies)!
I have personally loved every minute of my time as a Fleet player so far. Fleet Town I have always said is a step four club minimum! Not only is it a proper football club, it is also embracing the world in which we live in, and expanding with the help of our media team promoting us on multiple social platforms! The club doesn’t just stop there but continues to grow with the help of its youth system, Fleet Town Colts and our Girls/Ladies teams. I have no doubt with the work I see going on behind the scenes from not just Caroline, Tommy and Darren but the whole staff at the club, their dedication and commitment will before long see us once again climb from within this division.
I’d like to take this opportunity to say farewell to Connor Young who has decided to progress his career to the division above. Connor has been a great servant whilst at the club and I’m sure you will all join me in wishing him all the best with his future.
With Connor departing, it has opened up a slot for the captaincy… Once again I’d like to thank Elliott, Darryl and Luke for awarding me the armband, making me the new captain. It’s a huge honour, and look forward with the help of the players, to lead the club to many victories in the future.
Lastly I’d like to thank the supporters for continuing to cheers us on both home and away. Whether it be sunny, wet or windy we appreciate your support and playing your part as the twelfth man!
Have a fantastic afternoon….
