Jamie McClurg becomes new Fleet Town First team manager

Fleet Town FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Jamie McClurg as First Team Manager. As a former Fleet Town player, we are delighted to welcome one of our own back to Calthorpe Park to take control of the next chapter on the pitch at the Easy As HGV Stadium.

The Player

Jamie joins the club with an outstanding reputation within local non-league football, bringing with him a wealth of experience both as a player and manager across the Southern League and beyond. As a player, Jamie enjoyed a successful career with clubs including Bracknell Town, Slough Town, Binfield and here at Fleet Town, where his leadership, professionalism and competitive mentality made him a respected figure on and off the pitch.

The Manager

Moving into management, Jamie enjoyed major success alongside Carl Withers at Binfield, leading the club through one of the most successful periods in its history, including promotion from Step 5 and a memorable run to the FA Vase Final at Wembley Stadium.

More recently, he was part of the management team at Bracknell Town, helping establish the club as a strong force at Step 3 level with impressive league campaigns, reaching the playoff final and two FA cup runs reaching the First Round Proper.

Jamie now returns to Fleet Town at an exciting time for the football club, and everyone at the Easy As HGV Stadium is looking forward to supporting him as we continue building for the future. A further announcement will be made next week regarding his management team.

Chairman Darren McGrath said:

“Jamie was someone who stood out throughout the process. His knowledge, energy and ambition for what this football club can become really impressed us. He understands non-league football, understands the area and already understands what Fleet Town means to people. As a former player, we’re delighted to welcome one of our own back to Calthorpe Park to lead the club into its next chapter.”

Director of Football Jon Underwood added:

“I am so pleased that “Clurgy” has agreed to become our manager! As a former player here he has a natural connection to the club and he is someone I have known for over 20 years. He played for me at Slough and Godalming and was always a tremendous competitor on the pitch and it’s no surprise that since moving in to management he has had great success, firstly at Binfield and then at Bracknell. He is a manager who gets every last ounce of effort out of his players and creates a great dressing room environment. He is ambitious, wants to win things and I feel bringing him here is a real statement of intent.”

Jamie McClurg said:

“I’m really pleased to be joining Fleet Town. It’s a club I know well and one that has huge potential both on and off the pitch. After speaking with the board and in particular, Jon, it was clear there is real ambition here and I’m excited to get started.”

This marquee appointment further aligns the club’s ambitions on the pitch with the long-term vision for “Fleet Town Future” off it, as Fleet Town FC continues building towards an ambitious and sustainable future.

The next chapter has well and truly begun, and we look forward to sharing even more exciting news with supporters over the coming weeks. Please join us in welcoming Jamie back to Fleet Town FC.
