Fleet Town FC Women match report

Match report: Fleet Town Women 0-1 Selsey Development

Fleet Town Women played Selsey Development on 1st October at home in a tense and frustrating match finishing in a 0-1 loss.

Fleet came out strong from kick-off, with an unchallenged strike on goal from Teyla Poulter in the first seconds that was caught by the Selsey goalkeeper. Our side continued to put pressure on the opposition in their half, using the pace of our midfield to drive down the wings and passing well through defence to maintain possession for much of the game.

An exciting chance came with a free kick when our striker was fouled just outside our box, but the ball landed just wide of the goal. Despite several more attempts on goal that were shut down by the goalkeeper, Fleet couldn’t find that magic shot and in the 31st minute Selsey broke through our defence and managed to slide the ball past our goalkeeper.

The ladies continued to work hard in the second half, with Emma Hamer and Ellie James partnership on the left creating more chances on goal. Ultimately, the Selsey defence worked overtime to keep Fleet at bay and the team was unable to create an equaliser.

Captain and player of the match, Abbie Burrows, said: “You can definitely see the quality of the teams we’re playing this season. We played amazing football, up the field, along the back and spending a lot of time in their half. We had an unlucky goal against us but the girls played solid football today.”
