Wallace Double Helps Blues to Big Win in Top-of-the-Table Clash

Fleet Town 4–1 Knaphill. Two superb goals from George Wallace, an Alex MacAllister penalty and a late strike from Dan Parry helped us secure an emphatic 4–1 victory over our nearest title rivals Knaphill at the Easy As HGV Stadium on Saturday.

In front of a magnificent crowd of 588 – our highest home attendance of the season – we produced a strong second-half performance to claim three valuable points, extending our lead at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division South to four points, with a game in hand.

With first playing second, there was plenty at stake for both sides, and the opening exchanges reflected the importance of the occasion.

We were a little slow to settle into the game, with Knaphill looking the more comfortable of the two teams early on. The visitors were well organised and looked particularly dangerous on the counter-attack, making it difficult for us to establish any sustained pressure.

However, the game sprang into life on 23 minutes when we were awarded a penalty. Alex MacAllister stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot-kick to give us a 1–0 lead and send the home crowd into celebration.

Unfortunately, our advantage lasted just two minutes.

Former Fleet Town player Tom Wensley rose well to meet a free-kick delivered into the penalty area, directing his header past our goalkeeper to bring Knaphill level at 1–1.

Despite that setback, we responded positively and began to take control of the game, dominating possession and pushing Knaphill back for much of the remainder of the first half. We enjoyed sustained spells of pressure and looked the more threatening side, but despite our dominance, we were unable to find the breakthrough and went into the interval with the scores level.

The second half began in much the same fashion, with little to separate the sides as both teams looked for the breakthrough that could prove decisive.

New signing Joe Dandy was introduced in the 59th minute, making his first appearance for the Blues after joining the club ahead of the fixture.

As the half progressed, we gradually began to take control, enjoying more possession and pushing Knaphill deeper into their own half. Our attacking play became increasingly threatening, and the visitors were finding it difficult to relieve the pressure.

With the game entering its final quarter, it felt as though a decisive moment was approaching.

That moment arrived on 79 minutes.

Following a strong run from Ollie Burke, he was brought down just outside the Knaphill penalty area, presenting us with a free-kick in a dangerous position.

George Wallace stepped up and produced a moment of real quality, curling a magnificent effort into the bottom-left corner to restore our lead and make it 2–1.

It was a superb strike and a goal worthy of such an important fixture.

Having finally broken Knaphill’s resistance, we wasted little time in pressing home our advantage.

Just four minutes later, Wallace was at it again.

Following excellent work from MacAllister, Wallace found himself in a position to strike and produced another outstanding finish, this time sending the ball into the top-right corner to make it 3–1 on 83 minutes.

Two brilliant goals in the space of four minutes had completely transformed the contest and put us firmly in control.

With Knaphill now chasing the game, we continued to look dangerous going forward, and there was still time for one final flourish.

In the second minute of added time, substitute Dan Parry made an immediate impact, scoring within a minute of entering the action.

James Beauchamp did brilliantly to win possession and find Parry, who raced through on goal before calmly slotting the ball home to complete an emphatic 4–1 victory.

It was a fitting end to an excellent second-half display, with three late goals securing a hugely important win against our closest challengers.

After a closely contested opening period, our persistence, attacking quality and clinical finishing ultimately proved the difference, with Wallace’s outstanding double providing the defining moments of the afternoon.

The result sees us strengthen our position at the top of the table, moving four points clear of Knaphill with a game in hand.

A fantastic result in front of a superb crowd of 588, whose support helped create a tremendous atmosphere for one of our biggest games of the season so far.

There is no midweek fixture for the Blues this week, but we return to action next Saturday with another tough test as we travel to fourth-placed Redhill, looking to build on this excellent result and maintain our momentum at the top of the table.
