White at the Double as We March Into Round Three
On a Tuesday night, with both sides rotating their squads in a busy period of the season, we booked our place in the third round of the Combined Counties Premier League Cup with a comfortable win.
The game started quietly, but was halted after 12 minutes when one of the assistant referees went down injured and required treatment from our physios. With no way for him to continue, an appeal was made to the crowd, and thankfully a qualified spectator stepped forward to run the line. After a 12-minute delay, play resumed. Neither side created much until the 42nd minute, when we won a free kick in a dangerous position—earning Camberley’s Luke Rippon the second of four yellow cards they picked up on the night. The ball into the box caused problems, bouncing around until Ollie Burke pounced to steer it into the net and give us a 1-0 lead. With the earlier stoppage, 17 extra minutes were added before the half-time whistle.
We made two changes at the break, bringing on Tom Drinkwater and debutant Jack Lewis. Just five minutes into the second half, we doubled our lead when Theo White controlled the ball on the edge of the box and calmly slotted it into the bottom corner. Then, on 58 minutes, Theo struck again—driving forward from midfield before rifling a shot between the keeper and his near post to put us 3-0 ahead.
Camberley responded four minutes later, when a header came back off the post and dropped kindly for Oscar Larrieu-Price to tap home, giving Louis Knight—making his first start in our goal—no chance. The visitors pushed hard to find another, but we stayed solid and saw out the game to claim a 3-1 victory.
